Andrew Turnbull spoke to SHRM about the likely changes in the EEOC’s approach to enforcement following the publication of a proposed strategic enforcement plan for fiscal years 2023-2027 and the nomination by President Joe Biden of Kalpana Kotagal to chair the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC).
“The EEOC will likely be more aggressive in pursuing enforcement actions around [the agency’s updated strategic enforcement priorities] than what we have seen from [them] in recent years," said Andrew, noting: “The EEOC will very likely have a Democrat-majority commission soon.”
He added that the EEOC has “specifically mentioned focusing on the lack of diversity in the construction and tech industries, particularly as it relates to hiring barriers in recruiting.”
