Andrew Turnbull spoke toSHRMaboutthe likely changes in theEEOC’s approach to enforcement following the publication ofa proposed strategic enforcement plan for fiscal years 2023-2027 and the nomination byPresident Joe BidenofKalpana Kotagalto chair the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC).
“The EEOC will likely be more aggressive in pursuing enforcement actions around [the agency’s updated strategic enforcement priorities] than what we have seen from [them] in recent years," said Andrew, noting: “The EEOC will very likely have a Democrat-majority commission soon.”
He added that the EEOC has “specifically mentioned focusing on the lack of diversity in the construction and tech industries, particularly as it relates to hiring barriers in recruiting.”
