Following the decision of Ireland’s Data Protection Commission to fine Meta €1.2 billion and order the company to suspend transfers of personal data between the EU and U.S., and with the Data Privacy Framework yet to be finalized, Alex van der Wolk spoke to Global Data Review about the impact of the decision for businesses that rely on transatlantic data transfers.
“Is a world thinkable in which we don’t transfer data to the US? My answer is going to be no,” Alex commented.
“It’s a matter of reality that data is transferred to the US, and this is not helping. This is getting Europe one step closer, in my view, to becoming an information island,” he added.
