Illinois has introduced a bill to ban five food additives — including titanium dioxide — expanding on California’s recent action and signaling growing frustration with the FDA’s pace on food safety. Other states like New York, Missouri, and South Dakota are considering similar measures, potentially forcing national manufacturers to reformulate products. The movement mirrors stricter European standards and could pressure the FDA to act more quickly. Brian Sylvester said, "I think there’s a heightened attention at FDA," and that state legislation is “going to help the agency to take action more quickly – what that action looks like remains to be seen.
