November is National Native American Heritage Month, a time when we celebrate the rich and diverse cultures of the people who were the original inhabitants, explorers, and settlers of the United States. We also dedicate this time to raising awareness around the unique experiences of Native people today and throughout history. It’s important to note that the month’s recognition encompasses Native Americans, Alaska Natives, Native Hawaiians, and Island communities, which include millions of people, hundreds of tribes, and thousands of years of history.
At MoFo, we value diversity and inclusion and recognize the importance of understanding and respecting the heritage and perspectives of all our team members. This month, we encourage you to take some time to learn about the diverse traditions, languages, and customs of Native American communities.
In honor of this month, The Morrison & Foerster Foundation will be making a $20,000 donation across the following organizations:
- Native Rights Fund – Native Rights Fund works to protect Native American rights, resources, and lifeways through litigation, legal advocacy, and legal expertise.
- Indigenous Women Rising – Indigenous Women Rising is committed to honoring Native & Indigenous People’s inherent right to equitable and culturally safe health options through accessible health education, resources, and advocacy.
- Native Forward Scholars Fund – Native Forward empowers students from over 500 Tribes in all 50 states by providing scholarship dollars and support services for undergraduate, graduate, and professional degrees.
