Singapore (JUNE 9, 2025) – Morrison Foerster, a leading global law firm, is pleased to announce the arrival of Xuanyi Liu, who joins the firm as a partner in the Private Funds Group and Transactions Department, based in Singapore. Liu brings extensive private funds and secondaries market experience to the firm, adding further depth to its private capital capabilities in Asia.
Liu arrives at Morrison Foerster with a strong private funds practice focused on advising clients on the formation and operation of private funds across all strategies, including private equity and venture capital, credit, real estate, climate, and infrastructure funds, as well as separate accounts, clubs, platforms, and co-investment programs. He has extensive experience in secondaries and liquidity solutions for both GPs and LPs and regularly advises sponsors and lead investors on GP-led secondaries (such as continuation funds) and traditional LP portfolio sales. Liu joins the firm from another prominent global firm, where he practiced in its investment funds group, from both its Singapore and Hong Kong offices.
“We are very pleased to welcome Xuanyi to Morrison Foerster,” said Stephanie Thomas, chair of Morrison Foerster’s global Private Funds Group. “He has an impressive breadth of experience, and we see a major opportunity for him to collaborate with our corporate, private equity, real estate, and finance colleagues to support our clients in the region.”
“Xuanyi’s significant experience bolsters our firm’s credentials in the Asia region, positioning MoFo as a full-cycle private capital solutions provider. We see great synergies with Xuanyi’s practice and our platform, and we look forward to welcoming him to our Singapore office and global team,” said Tabitha Saw, co-managing partner of Morrison Foerster’s Singapore office.
Liu’s arrival follows other recent strategic hires in Asia, including the arrival of Naoya Shiota in June 2025 (Tokyo), Xiaoxi Lin (Hong Kong) and Scott Jalowayski (Singapore) in January 2025, and Greg Salathé (Tokyo) in June 2024, as well as recent partner promotions in Asia including Investigations + White-Collar Defense partner Derik Rao (Shanghai), Real Estate partner Yoshitaka Katayama (Tokyo), and Antitrust partner Yoshiya Usami (Tokyo).
“It’s great to be joining Morrison Foerster at this exciting time, when the firm has made recent strategic investments in its Asia bench,” said Liu. “I am looking forward to connecting with cross-practice colleagues to help drive our global funds practice forward, while helping clients navigate their legal challenges in Asia.”
Liu holds a Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Business Management from the Singapore Management University. He is admitted to practice in Singapore and is fluent in English and Mandarin.
