Morrison Foerster (MoFo) has been named Investment Funds Firm of the Year at the Law.com International Asia Legal Awards 2026, recognizing the strength of the firm’s Asia Private Funds practice and its work on significant and sophisticated fund matters across the region.
The award recognizes firms for standout work on major fundraisings and secondary transactions, with judges considering legal sophistication and innovation, regulatory and commercial strategy, industry knowledge, teamwork and efficiency, client satisfaction, and contributions to the investment funds industry.
The recognition comes amid strong momentum for MoFo’s Asia Private Funds practice, which advises global and regional fund sponsors, asset managers, sovereign wealth funds, and other institutional investors on a full spectrum of private funds matters across the region.
Alongside fund formation, the team advises on co-investments, continuation funds, both GP-led and LP-led secondaries, structured liquidity solutions, separate accounts, team spinouts, fund manager joint ventures, and stakes transactions, as well as other strategic matters at the intersection of funds, liquidity, and manager strategy. The practice spans private equity, venture capital, private credit, real estate, infrastructure, and impact strategies, frequently involving complex cross-border structures and differing sponsor and investor priorities.
The Asia practice is anchored by highly regarded partners Serena Tan in Hong Kong and Xuanyi Liu in Singapore, whose complementary practices reflect the breadth of the team’s capabilities across the region.
Serena, Chair of MoFo’s Greater China Private Funds practice, has more than 17 years of experience advising leading global and regional fund managers and institutional investors. She is consistently recognized as a Leading Partner for China Investment Funds, including in the 2026 editions of Chambers Global, Chambers Greater China, and The Legal 500 Asia-Pacific.
Xuanyi advises private capital sponsors and institutional investors on fund formation, secondaries, and strategic private fund transactions across Asia, with particular experience in sophisticated liquidity solutions and manager-led transactions. He was named a Next Generation Partner for Singapore Investment Funds in The Legal 500 Asia-Pacific 2026 and was one of only 10 lawyers worldwide selected as a Financier Worldwide 2026 Power Player: Investment Funds – Distinguished Adviser.
With capabilities across Asia and the support of MoFo’s broader Global Private Funds Group, the team combines deep regional market knowledge and sophisticated structuring experience with an understanding of both sponsor and investor perspectives. This enables the practice to help clients navigate increasingly complex fund structures, liquidity requirements, and strategic opportunities across Asia’s evolving private capital markets.
