Mr. Morrison is of counsel in the firm’s Real Estate Group. Mr. Morrison’s practice focuses on the representation of funds, banks, REITs and other institutional clients in all major aspects of real estate-related transactions, including: financings; acquisitions and dispositions; development projects; fund formation; joint venture arrangements; restructurings and workouts; and distressed loan portfolio acquisitions. Mr. Morrison also represents lenders and sponsors in project finance transactions.

Mr. Morrison formerly practiced in the firm’s Tokyo office and has been recommended as a leading real estate lawyer by Chambers Asia Pacific, The Legal 500 Asia Pacific, and Who’s Who Legal Japan. Chambers Global has also named him a Japan Real Estate "Expert Based Abroad."

Mr. Morrison earned his J.D. degree from Vanderbilt University School of Law, where he was a Student Authorities Editor for the Vanderbilt Journal of Transnational Law, and received his B.B.A. degree from George Washington University. Mr. Morrison also studied Japanese language at Nanzan University, in Nagoya, Japan. Mr. Morrison is admitted to the bar in the District of Columbia and the State of Maryland.

Representative Matters

  • Representing GLP Pte. Ltd., in its $1.6 billion joint venture with China Investment Corporation for the acquisition of 15 logistics properties in Japan from a fund managed by LaSalle Investment Management. Awarded Real Estate Deal of the Year by Asian Legal Business (ALB) Japan Law Awards 2012.
  • Representing Evergreen Real Estate Partners LLC, a global real estate investment partnership affiliated with M3 Capital Partners, in its acquisition of Quraz (Japan’s largest self-storage company) and all of Quraz’s self-storage properties.
  • Representing global funds in connection with their acquisitions of performing, sub-performing and non-performing loan pools and bonds.
  • Representing institutional lenders in connection with working out their debt positions on real estate assets.
  • Representing a large financial institution in providing a series of financings to an opportunity fund to acquire a portfolio of hard assets and non-performing loans.
  • Representing publicly listed REITs in connection with purchasing nursing homes, industrial real estate assets, and land for development.
  • Representing an opportunity fund in the acquisition and financing of a portfolio of commercial and retail properties.
  • Representing a financial services corporation in connection with joint venture investments in retail and commercial properties.
