Stacey Sprenkel is the head of the Litigation Department in Morrison & Foerster’s San Francisco office and is a member of the firm’s global anti-corruption and compliance team. She has extensive experience conducting corporate internal investigations on a broad range of issues both domestically and internationally, and she regularly assists clients with conducting global risk assessments, and with developing compliance programs, including reviewing and implementing anti-corruption and other compliance policies, controls, and training programs. She conducts anti-corruption due diligence in connection with M&A and private equity transactions, and provides counseling on a broad range of compliance issues.
As a member of the Securities Litigation, Enforcement and White-Collar Defense Group, Ms. Sprenkel also represents companies, audit committees, special litigation committees, officers and directors in connection with securities class actions, derivative actions, SEC and DOJ investigations and enforcement proceedings, and other complex commercial litigation involving False Claims Act, civil RICO, and antitrust matters.
Ms. Sprenkel was most recently named to the 2018 list of the “Top 40 Under 40” lawyers in California by the Daily Journal and was also previously recognized by the publication as being among the “Top Five Associates to Watch” in California in 2013 as part of the publication’s annual “20 Under 40” list, which highlights California's emerging legal leaders. She has also been previously recognized by The Recorder as being among the “Lawyers on the Fast Track,” a list of attorneys practicing for less than 10 years in California whose early accomplishments indicate they will be tomorrow’s top lawyers and leaders. In addition, Legal 500 US 2015 recommended her for shareholder litigation and EuroMoney Legal Media Group selected her as one of eight women recognized on the 2014 shortlist of litigation rising stars for the “Americas Women in Business Law Awards,” which honors the achievements of women leading the legal sector across the Americas. She has also been recommended as a “Rising Star” by Super Lawyers every year since 2009.
Ms. Sprenkel has long been a champion for veterans’ rights. She briefed, argued and won a motion to certify a high-profile class action on behalf of veterans who were exposed to chemical and biological substances during their time in service as a result of secret human testing programs conducted by the U.S. military. Ms. Sprenkel was also a member of the trial team in VCS v. Peake, an action brought on behalf of veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder against the Department of Veterans Affairs for failure to provide statutorily mandated benefits and health care to returning troops. Ms. Sprenkel serves on the Board of Directors of Swords to Plowshares, a veterans’ rights organization.
During law school, Ms. Sprenkel was the Editor-in-Chief of the Columbia Journal of European Law, and served as a research assistant to Professor George Bermann. She is admitted to practice in California.Show More
