Our Washington, D.C. office was the third office opened by the firm and the first outside of California. Since opening in 1979, the office has grown from six to 100 lawyers known for their regulatory, corporate, litigation, and intellectual property work on behalf of banks and other financial institutions, investors, entrepreneurs, and Fortune 500 and technology companies. Many of the lawyers in our D.C. office joined us after having successful careers in the government, including with the Department of Justice and the Securities and Exchange Commission.
D.C. litigators represent clients in complex commercial litigation and agency proceedings involving antitrust, financial services, privacy and data protection, intellectual property, trade secrets, energy, and securities, including complex civil and white-collar criminal matters, money laundering, qui tam, Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, and environmental and RICO matters.
Our Appellate & Supreme Court Group, which is based out of D.C., works closely with IP litigators and lawyers across the firm in developing and executing successful strategies for appeal. For the depth of our appellate practice, the National Law Journal named us to its 2015 Appellate Hot List.
The D.C. corporate team represents public companies in M&A transactions and venture capital investments, as well as in project finance, securities regulation, and corporate governance matters. The D.C. corporate team is also home to one of the nation’s leading REIT practices, which was recently ranked as one of the top five REIT M&A law firms based on deal volume and had a 43 percent market share in REIT IPOs in 2015.
With one of the top government contract practices in the United States, the D.C. office represents contractors, subcontractors, manufacturers, service process, and companies that work with various government agencies.
Our financial services practice advises banking and financial institutions on bank regulatory matters, consumer and retail financial services, bank retailer joint ventures, regulatory capital matters, and data privacy and security.
Lawyers in our energy regulatory practice represent the interests of clients before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and other regulatory agencies on matters related to traditional and renewable energy sources, including clean technology.
Our debt trading practice serves commercial banks, investment banks, asset managers, broker-dealers, hedge funds, and other entities in lending and loan trading transactions, including workouts.
D.C. lawyers also advise clients in the emerging areas of mobile payments and financial technology.
