The New York State Joint Commission on Public Ethics and the Center for New York City Law at New York Law School
This panel will take a deep dive into the annual financial disclosure statement (FDS) process for New York State officials. The panel, made up of current and former officials from New York state and city government, as well as the federal government, will discuss how to best ensure that the FDS process meets its objectives – rooting out conflicts of interest in government through transparency. The panel will look at whether current law captures the proper population of filers and asks for the most relevant information. The panel will also explore the policy underlying the FDS form, the uses of the form for law enforcement purposes, as well as different jurisdictional approaches to FDS reporting.
