Partner Carrie H. Cohen is speaking on a CLE panel sponsored by the Commercial & Federal Litigation Section of the New York State Bar Association, entitled “Criminal Investigations and Social Media, Geolocations, and the Capital Riots.”
The panel will feature former prosecutors and criminal defense attorneys who will address how social media is an increasing issue in criminal investigations and how content posted on social media coupled with geolocation data can be used by prosecutors to investigate and bring charges. In particular, this panel will discuss how such data assisted the government in bringing charges against individuals involved with the insurrection at the Capitol. Panelists also will discuss other high profile matters in which social media information has been used to support the criminal prosecution, including the Occupy Wall Street case.
