Disputes between licensors and prospective licensees over standard essential patents (SEPs) have become increasingly complex in the wake of Unwired Planet.

On May 13, 2021, Morrison & Foerster partner Alex Okuliar spoke at RPX Conference 2021. His panel was titled “Handling Global SEP Disputes: Judicial Extraterritoriality, Injunctions, and Competition.” Alex, along with a panel of leading experts including former USPTO head Dave Kappos, former UK Court of Appeals Judge Sir Robin Jacob, and Professor Jorge Contreras, explored the current state of play and shared their playbook ideas for navigating the new world of judicial extraterritoriality, injunctions and anti-suit injunctions, and competition claims. The panel also shared insights on the future of regulatory and judicial developments.
