Following a case filed in 2016 against Google, Microsoft and Yahoo accusing the companies of flooding the market with fake listings to pay for promoted search results, a D.C Circuit court ruled that Google and other tech companies are immune from the lawsuit.
The appeals court ruled that the companies were protected under Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act. Section 230 protects websites by giving immunity from liability based on content uploaded by third parties.
Morrison & Foerster lawyers Jeffrey A. Jaeckel and Joseph R. Palmore were mentioned in the article for their representation of Yahoo in this matter. Law 360’s article, DC Circ. Sides With Google, But Warns Immunity Has Limits, discusses the case in further detail.
