Andrea Delisi spoke to the Financial Times for an article covering former investment banker Basil Shiblaq’s secret mining deal with the government of Venezuela, despite U.S. sanctions over accusations that the government has been presiding over brutal abuses and environmental destruction in the mining industry.
According to Andrea, Shiblaq could risk becoming a target for U.S. sanctions if he subsequently goes ahead with gold mining or pursues a venture that involves doing business with an existing sanctions target. “Doing business with a designated person or in certain sectors of the Venezuelan economy can get you sanctioned,” she said.
