Three Morrison & Foerster attorneys named to Variety’s 2021 Dealmakers Impact Report

Eric T. McCrath, Tessa J. Schwartz, and Justin H. Haan were honored in Variety’s Dealmakers Impact Report 2021 for their role advising Unity, a leading platform for creating and operating interactive real-time 3D content, on its $1.625 billion acquisition of assets of Weta Digital. Each year Variety recognizes “top financiers, attorneys, executives and entrepreneurs” who “forged the major game-changing deals that changed the showbiz landscape.”

“This was a special deal to work on,” said Eric, who led the deal. “The transaction paves the way for Unity to integrate Weta Digital tools onto its platform so that more creators have access to Weta’s industry-defining technology and can leverage these tools to create stunning new content.”

Eric T. McCrath serves as co-chair of Morrison & Foerster’s Global Corporate Department and has extensive experience in public and private M&A, private equity, and financing transactions. He counsels strategic acquirers and targets in a variety of industries, including technology (e.g., semiconductors, software, and Internet), healthcare, consumer products, financial institutions, media, and transportation.

Firmwide managing partner Tessa J. Schwartz is highly acclaimed for providing counseling to companies on intellectual property issues and negotiating complex intellectual property and commercial agreements. She advises clients on a range of strategic transactions, including key patent licenses and acquisitions, technology procurement agreements, and complex development, collaboration, joint venture and distribution deals. Tessa also regularly counsels companies on the IP aspects of their M&A transactions.

Justin H. Haan is a partner in the firm’s Technology Transactions Group in the San Francisco office and focuses his practice on transactions and counseling involving intellectual property and technology, including licensing arrangements, technology transfers, and joint development activities.
